Prometheus isn’t just a data format; it is also considered an open source systems monitoring and alerting toolkit. That’s because Prometheus is software, not just data.
Prometheus can scrape metric data from software and infrastructure and store it. Scraping means that Prometheus software periodically revisits the same endpoint to check for new data. Prometheus scrapes data from a piece of software instrumented with a client library.
For example, a NodeJS application can configure the prom-client to expose metrics easily at an endpoint, and Prometheus can regularly scrape that endpoint. Prometheus includes a number of other tools within the toolkit to instrument your applications.
Grafana open source software enables you to query, visualize, alert on, and explore your metrics, logs, and traces wherever they are stored. Grafana OSS provides you with tools to turn your time-series database (TSDB) data into insightful graphs and visualizations. The Grafana OSS plugin framework also enables you to connect other data sources like NoSQL/SQL databases, ticketing tools like Jira or ServiceNow, and CI/CD tooling like GitLab.
Grafana supports different authentication methods, such as LDAP and OAuth, and allows you to map users to organizations.

On April 20, 2021, Grafana Labs announced that going forward, our core open source projects will be moving from the Apache License v2.0 to AGPLv3.
Prometheus is 100% open source and community-driven. All components are available under the Apache 2 License on GitHub.
This marketplace items allows to provide Change2Twin users with Grafana & Prometheus in the cloud and SSH access to its instance. Amount of computation power of the machine is discussed individually. It’s available for free usage in the cloud while Change2Twin project is on (until November 2024) and further pricing depends on computation power and can be discussed individually.
